About

Hi I am Kevin Figueroa, a legally blind director, cinematographer, and photographer based in New York City, and my creative journey is fueled by a passion for storytelling and a determination to break barriers. My love for the visual arts began in middle school at the New York Institute for Special Education, where a teacher’s encouragement and a shared camera opened my eyes—quite literally—to a world of possibilities. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to exploring unique perspectives and capturing moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. From the vibrant streets of NYC to the intimate behind-the-scenes moments on film sets, my work reflects the resilience, beauty, and unexpected details that make each story worth telling.

Over the years, I’ve embraced every challenge my visual disability presents as an opportunity to innovate and redefine what it means to see the world. I’ve transitioned from early photography and videography to exhibiting my work in a gallery that celebrated local culture, and even had the honor of capturing red carpet moments at the Tribeca Film Festival. I also share my experiences by teaching photography and filmmaking to blind and low vision students, hoping to inspire the next generation of artists. Ultimately, my art is a testament to the belief that creativity transcends limitations and that every perspective—no matter how unconventional—has the power to change the world.
